Two last-minute business trips, house and home issues, the last minute urge to sew costumes for both children … last weeks Think Of A Something Thursday is backed up and not posted. I’ll either post it soon or just double up this next week.
In the meantime, to kick off a little more readership, I’m going to join in on the fall yall thing (see next post) and see about getting a main web page up to direct people here properlike.
Oh, and Lisa - I found your Muffin Tops! I daren’t eat them, as they look like corn chips - a greasy savory chip I’d much rather eat with chili than milk.

Baby’s teething. And keeps losing the teething rings; so we’re eating a lot of corn on the cob this week. Only has four teeth so far, but she sure tries hard. And succeeds.
I popped into a grocery store to pick up corn at lunch, and the greens guy was there, shucking the corn - it didn’t look pretty enough to sell. Argh. But I talked him into giving me a few intact, and I could really tell the difference between the unshucked and the shucked and shrinkwrapped stuff they sell for twice the price. And score - they were cheaper than the marked price (which was still scandalous, but what are you going to do at the trailing tail of the country). Continue Reading »

They say history is written by the victors. And that the difference between a traitor and a hero is a matter of which victor scribes the tale.
Feh on talk like a pirate day. I’m dressing the kids up, though I won’t partake myself (maybe I’ll go commercial and borrow the kid’s Pirate Mickey ears).
“Feh” because I can’t participate much (previous work committment) and “feh” on it in general. There could always be a less funny way to “commemorate” an ex’s birthday. Continue Reading »

I’ve been shopping around, but ended up with the Marathon clone, the Voyager by Fisher Price. According to Britax, they discontinued the agreement to make these cheaper for Fisher Price this last May, and they assume (can’t confirm) the last DOM is around May of this year. There are no plans they are aware of (that they’d tell me about) to start producing them.
Any stock that is out there is it.
A lot of places have Britax on sale, but I’ve been watching the Regent bounce up and down all week (I’ve got half a dozen screen shots with prices changing minute to minute) as well as other Britax seats on sale.
Yesterday Amazon put up a banner that Britax were 10% through the 15th of this month, but I haven’t checked the prices this morning, except for the screenshot above.
Also - replacement covers for the Regent are not currently available, but will be available towards the end of this year.
A lot of price movement and jumping up and down - probably in anticipation of the new Britax seats to debut Oct 15th.

All in the front seat of a two-seater sports car (recent-model airbag-equipped, top down).
You don’t often get a friendly wave on the highways around here. You also don’t often see people signaling to make a lane change on the highway at 65 mph (indicating an intended lane change is not required here). I’m not much of a generally aggressive driver to relatively non-offensive drivers, and have no problem letting people in.
This guy, however, was a piece of work. I was cruising in my lane, preparing to exit, when a little red sports car, top down, wiggled in my view at about ten o’clock. I did a double-take, then triple take. He was steadying the “baby bucket”, presumably with a baby inside, that was literally rattling around the front seat of his sporty little car.
I slowed down to let him slide into the 11 o’clock position, getting out of his mercifully small blind spot. The car weaved a little, and he hit his turn signal to change lanes. He turned to check his blind spot, saw me drop back, then let his last hand raise free of the steering wheel to wave to me in thanks. Then I saw the cell phone … Continue Reading »

Between figuring out where to blog and how to keep up family fun all summer, I didn’t get much public writing done. A little planning on writing, and some organization, but online it’s been rather quiet.
The kids are older, the school year has begun. My garden this spring and summer were weeds, now pulled to make room for fall crops - once I gopher proof my boxes. Maybe some carrots again, onions and squash.
But updates to come, as the youngest starts walking and the eldest starts take-home-work. And we try to find a good life and work balance that suits our little family.

Though I don’t think this what the Le Moyne brothers pictured. And you know, those beads are a choking hazard.
For reasons known only to the gods and Corporate, there is to be a celebration of Mardi Gras. Starting in the middle of the Lenten season, ending well past it. At daycare. My mind boggles at this. They have a lot of parties at daycare, as most of Wolfie’s clutch of friends were born in spring time. But on the other hand, they really hammer home stuff like days of the week, letters of the alphabet, and that old-fashioned-new-fangled phonics stuff.
But Mardi Gras? An interesting alternative to the “Spring Party”; divvying up Easter and Passover is a bit hard to really break down to the under-five set. But I braved the balmy spring weather and hit the crafty spots here and there go gather our supplies to bring, as Instructed In A Letter Home, a home-made Mardi Gras craft project. For the three year old and the infant. Um, wow. Continue Reading »

I grew up in a bean-simple household. There were Pinto Beans, Green Beans, Lima Beans, and … that was it. Mom was a bit of an experimental cooker, and we were exposed to a lot of interesting food combinations, but not a lot of different types of beans. Might have had something to do with her raising several “only children” and all of us with … varied food interests.
When I moved to Florida, I resisted trying two new things until I was in a comfortable place to try them: Sushi and non-pinto/green/lima beans. Sushi I tried from a Kosher caterer, black beans at a good local Spanish/Mexican restaurant, garbanzos at home and as hummus. A couple of Italian soups with navy/white beans, too. Yum. My pumping honeymoon is over. I no longer get “just enough” for her daily while I’m pumping at work. She’s moved from 12 ounces in four bottle feeds to 12 ounces in three bottle feeds daily. So we’ve dumped her second morning breakfast (just a cuddle and some play time before we leave her in the arms of her care providers) and cutting down drop off time by about 30 minutes. Dumping the second breakfast means she’ll take 16 ounces from a bottle during her “day” though I can’t consistently yet get that pumping during the day at work. Continue Reading »

I could have sworn I made up “cul-de-sac cred”. I guess I don’t spend enough time in the real world.
