I wondered when this stage would arrive. I’d read my friends blogs, envious of their kids’ imaginations - imaginary friends, imaginary names … he did a little bit of that but not a lot. But his imagination is getting broader and broader; thank you Galaxy Trio!!
He’s made up a few stories before - usually regurgitations of stories he knows and loves, with a few twists. This time it got longer and longer …

“Mom, you are Gravity Girl, I am Vapor Man, and the baby is Meteor Man. Now there are these bad bots and we have to get them.

“Okay, let’s catch them and flip the switches on our jail maker and put them in JAIL!”

His teacher apparently has a purple tail that comes out when they play together on the playground. My theory is that he equates her with the teacher/helper dragon in his DragonTails game. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out where he draws inspiration or hallucination from.

Today on the ride home, he let me know that he would be needing some new equipment for his adventures.

I wish I had a hammer and shield.

Why?

So I can block icebergs when people throw them at me.

Oh, I see. Do a lot of people throw icebergs at you?

No, not for real, just for pretend.

Ah. You know, if they are pretend icebergs …

Oh, I know, I know. I can just use a pretend shield to block them.

Right.

[pause] So do you know what is in the icebergs, Mom?

Ice?

No, good people are frozen inside. And I rescue them with my hammer.

By smashing them out of the icebergs?

Yeah, you got it!

Hee.
