My daycare director is coming up on her anniversary here and all we got her was a break out of pink-eye. Let’s see. If the first year is pink-eye, the second year is probably chicken pox. I think she cut her teeth on a Fifth Disease breakout when she first got there.

But seriously, I’m going to tell her to set up an Amazon store to augment their fund-raising (corporate has them doing March of Dimes activities, but they also do stuff to raise money for staff parties) and we’ll skip the chicken pox.

So Helvi started the goop yesterday morning; I kind of dismissed it as we were on our way out to see family and figured Dr Cool didn’t have Sunday hours (I was wrong - must confirm hours when we go back for our WBV next week). Wolfie had it before the holiday weekend, but it cleared up after treatment and rest. I kept her home, working out to work part of the day at home, and spend part of the day caring for her.

Dr Cool was on vacation, so they gave me someone new to us: Dr Gardenia. She rocks. I don’t know how the gods have conspired to have two fabulous peds in one practice, but she was great. Some fluid on Helvi’s ears, but she’s not worried about it if I’m not, was polite about the breastmilk in the ears theory, and said if I wasn’t worried about Helvi’s cough (yeah, remember all that chocolate I ate last week? She’s coughing, too.) and she was otherwise happy baby, she wasn’t worried, either.

Got to daycare to pick up Wolfie, and there was a sign on the door: Conjunctivitis Outbreak. Dr’s note required to return to school. I think that generally is their rule for the more communicable diseases, but you know it’s gotten bad if they’ve posted such a reminder on the door. (For the Fifth Disease outbreak they sent a letter home.) I made sad puppy dog eyes in the director’s general direction and she told me not to worry about it: Wolfie had been treated and cured promptly (and I kept him out of the baby room) and I had kept Helvi out and she was sure I’d really taken her to the doctor.

The reason it was going around was because of One Kid. Actually, one kid’s parents. She sent the kid home with pink eye concerns. The parents brought the kid back, swearing up and down they’d gone to the doctor and were told it wasn’t pink eye. Outbreak city. They sent Helvi’s main teacher home as soon as they realized she had it (back on Friday, and no one told me :() but Helvi’d already grabbed her (she is in super grabby stage right now). Today, alone, the director’s sent home half a dozen kids and a couple went home last week too (not sure when Eyeball Zero was sent home).

Helvi’s eyes have cleared up, and mine hurt. Sigh. I’ll keep an eye on me and see if Joe Cool, PA-C will phone in a ’scrip for me if I need it. Between an event this Friday and training most of the rest of this week, I don’t want to have to run back and see them. Especially again as I’ll be missing time *next* Friday for Helvi’s nex Well Baby visit … she’s that old!???! Wow. WOW. Baby-proofing city for happy girl, I tell you what.
