Mid-day musings

Had lunch with the hub today, yay. He came all the way up to me, but we need to work on finding a place or three more mid-way for us. “You’re so much more awake at lunch!” Yeah, well, by the end of the day I am kinda dead. And we’re swamped with kids every night and exhausted even more by the time they are down.
Was invaded by the saw-toothed grain beetle recently. (A description, but no pictures in the link.) Either came from a package of Mahatma Brown rice I bought or some pearl barley from late last year; both packages “got under” stuff down at the bottom of the pantry. Noticed a bug or three a couple weeks back, then found the motherlode [shudder] the other day.
Been tackling the pantry a shelf at a time, opening all of the rice and beans and assorted pasta packages we have stuck hither and yon. Luckily they didn’t get to much, but they got to enough to royally squick me out. I got a few Snapware big containers for pasta, and scored big today at Dollar Tree for all my beans and teeny pastas … 32 ounce spring-themed screw top clear jars from their Easter section (no bunnies or eggs on these, though, just butterflies and flowers). I had been recycling/re-purposing some plastic fruit jars for this, but they weren’t quite big enough to store the beans in the amount I want (or wide-mouthed enough - I load my jars from bags using my canning funnel) and I don’t need anything huge.
They also have these at Dollar Tree right now (at least the ones around here). My friend Suzanne gave us a couple of these when Wolfie was born, and as Helvi gets more mobile and interactive, we’ll need to have a few more around for him to “give” her and share with her. Plus they make great kid gifts.
Ah, sunshine on the diapers - works great on new stains. I took advantage of the holiday weekend to sun out a few recently-stained diapers and it was good. Some of the older ones, not so much (mostly stuff I got used, most with the comment “a couple of stains that will probably sun out”. Uh, no, not so much. I may take the bleach pen to them if a boil on the stove treatment (or soak in freshly kettled water) doesn’t do it.
Chocolate treatment seems to be holding on. I was pretty cough-free most of the morning, yay.
