“Wolfie, take off your pants, turn them around so the pockets are in the front, and put them on again, please.”

“Okay, mommy.”

Got … Oatmeal?

My pumping honeymoon is over. I no longer get “just enough” for her daily while I’m pumping at work. She’s moved from 12 ounces in four bottle feeds to 12 ounces in three bottle feeds daily. So we’ve dumped her second morning breakfast (just a cuddle and some play time before we leave her in the arms of her care providers) and cutting down drop off time by about 30 minutes. Dumping the second breakfast means she’ll take 16 ounces from a bottle during her “day” though I can’t consistently yet get that pumping during the day at work. Continue Reading »

Ding dong, the cough is dead!

Wolfie has turned the corner. He’s been back at school fulltime a few days now, though not without reluctance and some tears. But the cough is nearly gone and we’ve just about got the routine down with the nebulizer - just in time to put it back away.

Helvetica has a bit of the sniffles, but she’s bright eyed and cheery as ever. Rolling back to front quite a bit, occasionally from front to back. Eagerly reaching for our fingers and pulling herself up, content to balance standing a little, and just moving everywhere. This isn’t too much of a surprise; while she was a content little thing before she was born, she’s been scooting around since day one, moving from the foot to the head of the basinette in nothing flat. Is give war a chance ….

Gah. Between rocking Helvi while we sit on her little John Lennon blanket, the bits of the State of the Union Address I’ve heard, and the Senate hearings with Mc Cain and the new general for Iraq … I just can’t get that out of my head. Gah!

I’m afraid I can’t hear you, mum, I’ve a penguin in my ear.

Day eleventhyfive of The Sickness. At least we’re not at the hospital with pneumonia again. Wolfie has been sick since last Thursday (officially, though coughing longer), and I’m on my third or fourth week with my usual bronchitis. His fever has been up and down, and he’s mostly been home with one of us grown-up types, resting and recovering, working his way through it again, with the help of animal shaped vitamins, nebulizers, and thermometers. Always write it down. All of it. Keep records. And pictures.

Day one, post one. Already into re-runs.

I have been planning my first post for three days, maybe four. Helvetica, our youngest, had had a bowel movement of epic proportions at daycare, and I intended to go on about the wonderous joy that is poop. Maybe work in a reference to the Madness of King George while I was at it.

However, our eldest, Wolfie, spiked a fever last night and a cough that had him barfing, keeping us out of work and school today. First time he’s really been sick for Dr Cool, first time he’s been very sick at all, since we left Mc Doctor’s practice and I locked in Parent of the Year 2005.

We spent the day going to Dr Cool, taking a rapid Strep-B test, and ruling out pneumonia with a chest x-ray (he liked the cow-patterned lead apron he had to wear). He’s resting now, with a heavy-duty cough suppressant helping him finally get some sleep, and I’m about to cork off as well. Dr Cool has Saturday hours; I need to call and get a follow up tomorrow. I’ve just spent the last hour looking for this message I wrote my friends back in the spring of 2005, and getting my camera phone pictures of the rashes and hives printed out to add to his medical record. Meantime, enjoy. I’ll write about poop later.

I am so unoriginal

I could have sworn I made up “cul-de-sac cred”. I guess I don’t spend enough time in the real world.
